Free pattern: the upcycling top to recycle your fabric scraps

free pattern recycle fabric scraps sewing top upcycling charlotte auzou

It's free and will allow you to recycle your fabric scraps, it's the Top Upcycling pattern.

At the end of every sewing project, we always have scraps that we don't know what to do with. It is often easy to sew accessories to enhance these scraps but rarely clothes.

The classic and minimalist upcycling top will allow you to optimize every square centimeter of your fabric scraps thanks to the patchwork technique. It is a basic pattern, ultra easy to sew, even for beginners. Let your creativity and your fabric scraps guide the design of your next upcycling top. It is available from 34 to 56.

INSPIRATIONS

Your scraps will guide the design of your upcycling top. Be creative! Play with colors, asymmetries, diagonals, contrasts... Find below some ideas for your upcycling top.

The upcycling top is oversized and can therefore be suitable for many fabrics, knit or warp and weft. However, choose light or medium fabrics to obtain a fluid and pleasant to wear top. For the model in the photo, I used Atelier Brunette viscose crepe scraps (118 g/m²) that I really like to sew for my personalized dresses .

CUT

Supplies
From 34 to 42: 0.80m of fabric 1.40m wide
From 44 to 56: 1m40 of fabric 1m40 wide
1m of 1cm wide bias folded
If buttoned in front: 6 buttons + iron-on interfacing

free pattern top upcycling recycling fabric scraps workshop charlotte auzou Take inventory of your fabric scraps and imagine combinations. Trace the front and back pattern onto tissue paper. Depending on the design chosen, your front and back will be cut on a single-thickness fabric or on the fold. The pattern is traced on the board to be cut on an unfolded fabric.

If you want to sew a button placket in the center front or back, add 3 cm from this line. For cutting on unfolded fabric, do this step for each front or back (left and right). Make sure the pieces are symmetrical.

Trace your patchwork onto the pattern. Each piece will be cut once.
Number your pieces and indicate the chosen fabric. Also note the center front and back markings, as well as the straight grain. Memorize your patchwork well (take a photo of it for example) before cutting.

Be sure to respect the direction of the fabric (right side facing you for all pieces).

ASSEMBLY

free pattern top upcycling recycling fabric scraps workshop charlotte auzou Reconstruct the fronts and backs by assembling your patchwork. Stitch 1 cm from the edge, overlock and lay the seam allowances down or to the side. free pattern top upcycling recycling fabric scraps workshop charlotte auzou Assemble the fronts and backs at the shoulders and sides. Stitch 1 cm from the edge, overlock and lay the margins towards the back. free pattern top upcycling recycling fabric scraps workshop charlotte auzou

Place the bias tape open along the neckline, edge to edge, right side against right side. Stitch on the central fold of the bias tape, 1 cm from the edge.

Stitch as close to the fold as possible, about 8 mm from the edge. free pattern top upcycling recycling fabric scraps workshop charlotte auzou Form a bracelet with the sleeve yokes by stitching the short sides 1 cm from the edge, right side against right side. Spread the seam allowances with an iron. Fold the yokes lengthwise, wrong side against wrong side.

Stitch 1 cm from the edge all around the armholes, overlock and press. The bracelets are turned outwards and the margins are lying towards the inside of the top. free pattern top upcycling recycling fabric scraps workshop charlotte auzou If you have chosen to sew a buttonhole in the middle of the front or back, sew the buttonhole tabs. Make a first fold towards the wrong side over 1 cm, then a second over 2 cm and sew as close as possible to the fold. free pattern top upcycling recycling fabric scraps workshop charlotte auzou For a simple finish, the buttons are decorative and sewn directly to the two buttonholes. You can also sew buttonholes on one side and the buttons on the other.
Stitch the hem at the bottom of the top using two successive 5 mm folds.

Bonjour,
Dans les chutes il arrive qu’il n’y a plus de droit fil, est-ce qu’il suffit de découper que des carrés.
En vous remerciant.
