4 new sizes for customizable patterns

Customizable Plus Size Sewing Patterns, from 34 to 56 by Atelier Charlotte Auzou

I really thought this moment would never come, I can finally announce that the customizable patterns are available from 34 to 56 !

Customizable patterns have existed since 2019. They were originally available in sizes 34 to 44, then 34 to 48. This project to add 4 new sizes emerged in my mind in 2021, so it took me many months to make it happen. I work alone to develop my business and I consider entrepreneurship as a fabulous school to train myself and make my job rich and constantly evolving. So I do everything in my business, from pattern development to customer service, including communication and administrative tasks. And I love it! So, the projects take more time than using external service providers, but it is essential for me to maintain my motivation and energy at work. So thank you for your patience ;-)

Adding four new sizes to the customizable patterns was an opportunity for me to rethink the way I develop my patterns, design them, and grade them. These are patterns that were already very rich with 2 types of chest and 3 heights included. Their density means that it was essential to be careful that going from 8 to 12 sizes would not weigh down my development process for future patterns. I now do my patternmaking exclusively on the computer and I have made my grading method more reliable.

This project also took some time because it was not possible to do this update pattern by pattern. The essence of the concept of customization lies in the fact that they are all compatible with each other. The store therefore had to be updated in its entirety at once, in order to offer the same experience to everyone regardless of their size. Small downside, I removed two top patterns from the store (Elastic Bustier and Gathers and Victorian Collar). They were not your favorites and they will be the subject of a future redesign, I did not have time to rework them.

The new sizes were an opportunity to make minor changes to existing sizes. I observe your creations a lot on social networks and pay attention to your feedback, this allowed me to identify pattern adjustments that I could make in order to offer you an even better custom-made experience.

What doesn't change with the new sizes

- All the customizable patterns are always 100% compatible with each other. The tops and bottoms of course, but also the old versions of your patterns (34 to 48) with the new updated versions. There is no need to reprint your old patterns , you can always sew them with the versions now offered on the store.

- The size grid has been enlarged but has not changed for existing sizes.

What changes in the new gradation for all sizes

- The back height has been slightly decreased on the new gradation. It increased too much on the larger sizes and the result was often unsightly folds above the waist seam in the back.

- The shoulder slope has been slightly flattened for better-fitting necklines.

- Formerly called A/B Cups and C/D Cups, the two bust variations are now called "Small Bust" and "Large Bust". The bra cup can be different from the type of bust chosen in sewing. This is why the name has changed to avoid any confusion :-) I now offer you a new method to determine your bust type which is based on the front build. I invite you to follow the step-by-step in your pattern booklets or on the size guide. Of course, a toile remains essential to help you find the ideal bust type for you.

- The old "C/D Cups" variation was not sufficient for women with large busts, so I increased the value of the darts for the "Large Bust" type. This new setting has already been used for the last three top patterns ( Scarf , Butterfly and Bat ).

- For those who like jumpsuits, I have revised the height of the fork ( Jumpsuit and Skirt Culottes ) by increasing it so that they better correspond to small , standard and tall heights. I had noticed that the fork was often too tight in your creations, so a few more centimeters are available in the new version. Of course, each woman is unique, a toile is the best technique to find the best setting for your figure.

- You will notice on your boards that the pattern pieces are now numbered. An easier way to find your way around and choose the right pieces depending on the version you are sewing.

- Finally, to design and grade, you have to choose a body type and therefore unfortunately "standardize". This is a shame when you know that we often start sewing to get out of the ready-to-wear standards. The variations of the customizable patterns in 2 types of chest and 3 heights allow me to start to free myself from this standardization. Each woman is unique, it is quite normal not to sew the same size at the chest, waist and hips. So I worked on an enriched size guide that helps you find your size and sew according to your figure whether you are A or V, with a marked waist or not, etc.

I hope you will enjoy discovering the customizable patterns for those who were waiting for this update, and (re)discovering them for the others.

If you notice any typos in the new versions, I apologize in advance. Feel free to write to me to let me know at hello@ateliercharlotteauzou.com. Thank you!
