Sewing tutorial: hack the dress patterns from the book "My custom wardrobe" to make tops

sewing tutorial blog charlotte auzou dress little top my custom wardrobe atelier brunette dune chestnut

My sewing book " My Custom Wardrobe " highlights customization with the possibility of combining several patterns for a mix & match experience. Tops and bottoms make up dresses and jumpsuits; blouses and shirts can be personalized with several sleeves; skirts can be combined with multiple belts; and jackets and coats offer various options for a unique creation.

Today, I would like to offer you an ultra simple tutorial to hack the top patterns from the "Dresses and Jumpsuits" chapter. Combined with bottoms, these patterns are intended to become dresses and jumpsuits. But, it is very easy to use them to make little tops.

I'll explain how to modify this pattern. Here, I started with top 4, but this method is valid for the 4 top patterns in the book . Here are the models transformed into small tops.

TUTORIAL

Start by tracing the front and back (black outline). Margins are not included on the board.

Extend the center front, center back and side lines by 15 cm. The hem of your top will then be at hip level. If you are petite or tall, you can adjust this measurement.

Trace the hem of the front and back.

If your chest and hip measurements match the same size as the chart in the book, you can continue.

If you are between sizes, we will check that the bottom of the top is wide enough for your hip measurement. Measure the hem lines of the front and back. Add these 2 numbers and multiply them by 2. You then get the total length of your hem. It must be at least 4 cm longer than your hip measurement. If this is not the case, move the side lines to increase the ease at the hips as shown in dotted lines on the diagram above.

Add seam allowances: 1 cm all around except on the fold; 2 cm for the hem

The steps for assembling your little top are the same as those described in the book. The only new thing is the hem to be done at the end of the making.

Happy customizing and happy sewing!

compatible niveau patron.
merci à vous
Géraldine
