The re-release of my beginner's pattern book "Learn to sew your clothes and accessories" has boosted my creativity and the desire to sew easy and quick projects with the fabrics in my stash.
This gives 8 complete looks for summer or back to school that I present in this article. I hope it will give you ideas to get started in sewing and sew your next project.
LOOK N°1
The book contains a pattern for
a Tank Top that, once lengthened, turns into a small
Summer Dress , to be belted at the waist. The fabric is Liberty cotton, an English brand that I have loved sewing for years. This print is my favorite (and currently impossible to find) and I have long searched for the pattern that would motivate me to cut into my coupon.
For novice seamstresses, this pattern allows you to learn how to sew facings with a clever assembly that allows for perfect finishes at the neckline and armholes.
LOOK N°2
We find
the same pattern as in the previous look but with a small modification. I lengthened the front and back pieces by 28 cm to make a midi length dress. The side seams are made up to the hem planned in the initial pattern and I left it open afterwards to create a slit on each side.
LOOK N°3
Those who already know my book will recognize the
Perfecto pattern, an iconic model since the first edition in 2015. It is a jacket / vest pattern to sew in a soft fabric like sweatshirt or fleece. Here, it is a quilted sweatshirt with a badge bought a while ago at Make my Lemonade. I wear it with
the Shorts , ultra comfortable and easy to sew with its elastic waist. I found
a scrap of gingham cotton used for the Summer Dress in the book to make it.
LOOK N°4
We move on to a look that is a little less holiday-like and that I can easily imagine wearing to go to work (if I didn't work from home!). I combined
the Blouse sewn in Liberty cotton with
the Trousers sewn in
linen from Atelier Brunette . These trousers have a fitted cut at the hips and a leg that tightens at the ankle. They are slightly cropped. And, as for the Shorts, we don't forget comfort with the elastic waist ;-)
LOOK N°5
Still in the same slightly more autumnal register, we find here
the Blouse . I wanted a timeless pattern that would allow you to sew elegant t-shirts in warp and weft fabrics. Here, I chose a
plumetis viscose from Atelier Brunette which is very soft, supple and shiny.
As for the skirt, it is
the Jupe Froncée in its midi length. I like its flexibility in this viscose crepe. The assembly of the belt is very clever because it allows to combine the gathers on the front and an elastic in the back, or how to combine comfort and elegance.
LOOK N°6
Same patterns and a very different look!
The Blouse is sewn in
English embroidery , which is also a scrap of a coupon used for the book.
The Midi Skirt is the one I've worn the most in recent weeks. I'm a fan of the leopard print of this Atelier Brunette viscose.
LOOK N°7
For a long time, I wanted to sew the
Perfecto in sailor style. Now it's done! Here is another creation that I am sure to wear a lot. Below, this little straight dress is in fact the
Blouse pattern simply extended by 28 cm. In the book, I wanted to offer you simple patterns but which allow you to create many looks and variations, so that you can sew them a lot without getting tired of them.
LOOK N°8
You may recognize two fabrics seen in the book for this look. I wanted to dig into my closet before going to buy fabrics. The Tank Top is sewn in a
honeycomb cotton .
The Gathered Skirt is short and this sublime green fabric is a
lyocell . Both materials were offered to me by Un Chat sur un Fil who is a partner of the book.
