My personalized summer dress (+ tips for sewing striped fabrics)
I hope my new patterns will give you lots of ideas for personalized dresses. Well, you're not the only ones! My little list of sewing and fabric wishes is growing day by day :)
Like many of you, I fell for the striped viscose linens from Les Coupons de Saint Pierre , especially the one with yellow stripes that I immediately imagined as a summer dress to wear on the beach with a straw hat.
For this model, I chose the customizable patterns:
// Classic front and back + skater skirt //
This choice is not insignificant because I saw it as an opportunity to have fun with stripe connections and to set myself a little sewing challenge too.
I am therefore taking advantage of this creation to share with you some tips for sewing your striped fabrics.
• prepare the pattern: plan your future connections directly on the paper, it's much simpler than on the fabric. To do this, trace the stripes of the fabric on your pattern pieces. For this fabric, each stripe is 2 cm thick, I took this gap on my pattern.
• pay attention to the cut: a good cut will simplify your connections during assembly without altering the fall and size of your garment. I often prefer a cut without folding the fabric in two. I take care to cut each piece in several times, making sure to turn the pattern over to maintain symmetry. And for the pieces to be cut on the fold, I cut the first side, turn my pattern over and cut the second side.
• pinning well: to assemble two layers of fabric to be joined well, I position my pin along a stripe and check its alignment with the stripe on the other side.
