2020 retrospective + 2021 projects
Even though 2020 was an unexpected year, difficult in many ways, what a pleasure to contemplate the path (all the same!) traveled and to be grateful for what you brought me in my work. I enjoyed rereading the article I wrote a year ago , so I am lending myself to the exercise again in this month of January 2021.
What a year!
January
I'm starting the year by expanding the sizes offered for customizable patterns . Thanks to a team of super-testers, you can sew your unique dresses in 46 and 48.
It's also the 5th anniversary of the release of my first book " Learn to sew your clothes and accessories ". If I had known at the time that you would like it so much and for so long!
FEBRUARY
The ebook "My wedding dress" is coming to the online store. It allows you to learn how to sew your exceptional dresses. It is a project that brings me back to my professional adventure as a wedding dress designer with the ambition of showing you that it is not so complicated to sew lace and precious fabrics.
March
Like everyone else, the lockdown has caught me off guard and I have to deal with my multiple roles as a mother, schoolteacher and entrepreneur on a daily basis. I am reducing the number of patterns in my summer collection to make sure I release them at the right time. My priority is to stay present for my business by responding to your messages. Projects are progressing slowly, it's very frustrating.
april
I work every other day to take care of my children, the weather is nice and lunches on the balcony help to keep the good mood (not every day, let's be honest!).
I am offering you an update for three patterns: the jumpsuit in a short version, the mini gathered sleeves , and the short puff sleeves for spring.
The release of my new sewing book has been postponed, you will have to wait before showing it to you.
may
My editor Mélanie suggests that I do an Instagram live, I'm trying this exercise for the first time. Not completely comfortable but what a pleasure to chat with you. When I start talking about sewing, you can't stop me!
"Dressing de fête" is out in bookstores. What a pleasure to hold it in my hands! I am a total fan of Laurence Revol's photos and so proud to offer you patterns to sew your wedding dresses.
June
Finally! Before summer, I'm releasing the new customizable patterns #MaRobeAtelierCharlotteAuzou ( camisole , boat neckline , trapeze ). As with every release, stress is mixed with the joy of seeing you there and discovering the patterns that come to life thanks to the testers' sewing .
July
I'm having fun sewing a trouser suit and showing you all the steps in Instagram stories . This pattern from my latest book "Party Dressing" is a project full of challenges, perfect for learning new sewing techniques.
august
It's vacation time! As usual, I'm going camping with my family in France. This year, I'm discovering Alsace and the Vosges.
september
You asked me a lot, the "Juste le bas" pattern allows you to sew customizable stockings only to create skirts, pants and shorts. The possibilities of the #MaRobeAtelierCharlotteAuzou concept are multiplying for my greatest happiness.
october
I'm taking the time to relaunch my newsletter and I'm creating some tutorials for the blog: adding scallops and hacking the "Gathers and Victorian collar" pattern .
november
Winter collection for customizable patterns: overalls , buttoned V , tulip wallet and tulip sleeves . 4 patterns for now more than 2000 possible compositions! With the Salopette pattern, the #MaRobeAtelierCharlotteAuzou concept is developing to anchor itself in everyday sewing and is gradually freeing itself from its origins in the world of weddings and bridesmaid dresses.
December
This is the second edition of the #jecoudsmarobedefête creative contest on Instagram . I am lucky to have wonderful partners who follow me, I am amazed by your creations and I hope to make it an annual event. See you in December 2021!
...and it continues!
Not really New Year's resolutions, but rather intentions for 2021, here are the values that I want to explore in my business over the next twelve months.
• continue to put you at the heart of my business
I am grateful for your loyalty, your creativity and your kindness. In 2021, I will strive to continue to put you forward because you are the driving force behind Atelier Charlotte Auzou. Responding to your messages daily, sharing your creations on Instagram, or offering you new creative encounters for the blog...
• develop customizable patterns in slow mode
Even though I have many ideas to develop customizable patterns, I will force myself to offer you only two collections per year with 3 to 4 patterns each time. It's not always easy to choose the shapes I will work on! After more than 6 years creating sewing patterns, my catalog is already quite rich. So rather than continually offering you new products, my ambition is to bring my patterns to life through tutorials, updates, translations... Your ideas are welcome!
• be independent
I work alone and it suits me very well! I explain this process to you in particular in the article written on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of my brand . This mode of operation which allows me to find my work-life balance contributes to the slow development mode that I talk to you about in the previous paragraph.
But remaining independent also means being free in the content that I offer you on my site or my social networks. It means choosing the fabrics that I want to sew, sharing without being sponsored, offering you competitions on social networks with the accounts that I like and not necessarily those that have the most likes...
• accept the unexpected in my organization
On a more personal note, this year has shown me that even when I plan my professional organization, it doesn't always go as expected. But that's okay, you just have to be able to accept it ;)
I will end with this quote which will be my mantra in 2021:
“Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain.” – Seneca

Best wishes !
Charlotte
